At spinbob1.com we write about an online casino, so we take safer gambling seriously. Spinbob is for adults aged 18+ only, and every bet should come from money you can afford to lose. Gambling is never a way to make money, pay bills or recover losses — the house always has an edge over time. If gambling stops being fun, it is time to stop.

This page covers how to spot the warning signs, how to use the safer gambling tools inside your Spinbob account, how to block gambling across all sites, and where to get free support in the UK.

A quick check-in: how is your gambling?

Before reading on, it can help to take an honest look at your own habits. The short self-assessment below is based on the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI), a standard set of nine questions used by researchers and support services. Answer for the last 12 months. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis — it can highlight risk, but only a trained professional can assess your situation properly. Whatever your score, if you are worried, talking to someone at the National Gambling Helpline is a good next step.

Gambling self-assessment

Thinking about the last 12 months, answer each question honestly. Your answers stay in your browser — nothing is sent or stored.

1. Have you bet more than you could really afford to lose?
2. Have you needed to gamble with larger amounts of money to get the same feeling of excitement?
3. When you gambled, did you go back another day to try to win back the money you lost?
4. Have you borrowed money or sold anything to get money to gamble?
5. Have you felt that you might have a problem with gambling?
6. Has gambling caused you any health problems, including stress or anxiety?
7. Have people criticised your betting or told you that you had a gambling problem, regardless of whether you thought it was true?
8. Has your gambling caused any financial problems for you or your household?
9. Have you felt guilty about the way you gamble or what happens when you gamble?

Warning signs to watch for

Problem gambling rarely happens overnight. Look out for these signs in yourself or someone close to you:

  • Chasing losses — gambling more, or for longer, to win back what you have lost.
  • Spending more than you planned, or needing to bet bigger amounts to feel the same excitement.
  • Borrowing money, using savings or selling things to fund gambling.
  • Hiding or lying about how much time or money you spend.
  • Gambling to escape stress, boredom, loneliness or low mood.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back.
  • Neglecting work, study, sleep, family or friends.
  • Arguments about money or gambling at home.

If several of these sound familiar, use the tools below and consider talking to one of the support services listed further down. Reaching out early makes a real difference.

Spinbob’s safer gambling tools

Spinbob offers a set of controls inside your account. Set them before you play, while you are calm and thinking clearly — not mid-session. Look for the safer or responsible gambling section in your account settings; if you cannot find a tool, Spinbob’s 24/7 live chat can apply it for you. Our login guide shows how to get into your account.

How to set a deposit or loss limit

  1. Log in to Spinbob and open My Account.
  2. Go to the safer or responsible gambling settings.
  3. Choose Deposit limit or Loss limit, then pick daily, weekly or monthly.
  4. Enter an amount you could comfortably lose without affecting bills or savings.
  5. Save. Lowering a limit normally applies straight away; raising or removing one usually comes with a cooling-off period so the decision is not made on impulse.

A good rule of thumb: set your monthly deposit limit when you first register, before you claim any Spinbob bonus.

Reality checks

Reality checks interrupt your session at the interval you choose and show how long you have been playing and your net position. When one appears, take it seriously: stop, look at the numbers and decide whether to carry on.

Time-out

A time-out locks your account for anywhere from 24 hours to 6 weeks. It is useful after a bad session, during a stressful time, or if you just want a break. You cannot reverse it before it ends.

Self-exclusion

If you feel you need to stop, self-exclusion closes your Spinbob account for 6 months to 5 years. During that time you cannot log in, deposit or play, and you should not receive marketing. It cannot be cancelled early. Any remaining balance can be withdrawn — see our withdrawal guide. If you are self-excluded and find your account restricted, our account blocked guide explains why.

Excluding from one site is not enough

Self-excluding at Spinbob only covers Spinbob. To block yourself from all British-licensed gambling websites and apps at once, register with GAMSTOP as well.

GAMSTOP: block all UK-licensed sites at once

GAMSTOP (gamstop.co.uk) is the free national online self-exclusion scheme. Online gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain must take part. You register once with your details, choose a period (6 months, 1 year or 5 years), and participating operators must block you. Check the licence details shown in the Spinbob footer — UK players should look for a UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) licence, which comes with GAMSTOP participation.

Registration takes a few minutes online. Like operator self-exclusion, it cannot be undone early.

Blocking software and bank gambling blocks

Self-exclusion works best alongside practical barriers:

  • Gambling-blocking software — free and paid tools are available that stop gambling websites and apps loading on your phone, tablet and computer. GamCare and BeGambleAware can point you to options.
  • Bank gambling blocks — most major UK banks and card providers let you block gambling transactions on your debit card, usually with a toggle in the banking app. Turning the block off normally involves a cooling-off delay, which gives you time to reconsider.
  • Credit cards — these cannot be used for gambling in the UK, a ban in place since April 2020. Spinbob does not accept them. See Spinbob payments.
  • Remove saved details — delete stored cards and e-wallet logins from your devices and turn off marketing emails and texts.

Where to get help in the UK

All of the following are real, free or low-cost UK services:

  • National Gambling Helpline (GamCare) — call 0808 8020 133, free, confidential and open 24/7. Live chat and treatment information at gamcare.org.uk.
  • BeGambleAware / GambleAware — advice, self-help tools and treatment information at begambleaware.org.
  • Gamblers Anonymous UK — peer support meetings across the country, details at gamblersanonymous.org.uk.
  • GAMSTOP — national self-exclusion at gamstop.co.uk.
  • Citizens Advice — free, impartial help if gambling has led to debt, including dealing with creditors and budgeting.

If you are ever in crisis or feel unsafe, contact emergency services on 999.

Help for family and friends

Gambling harm affects the people around the gambler too. If you are worried about a partner, parent, child or friend:

  • Talk calmly, at a time when they have not just been gambling. Focus on how their behaviour affects you, rather than blaming.
  • Protect your own finances — separate accounts, remove joint access to credit and keep important documents safe.
  • Don’t pay off their debts without a plan; it can make the cycle continue. Citizens Advice can help you understand your options.
  • Get support for yourself. GamCare’s helpline on 0808 8020 133 is open to affected others, and GamFam offers peer support for families affected by a loved one’s gambling.

Our commitment

We only recommend gambling as a paid-for form of entertainment, never as income. Our Spinbob bonus guides always explain terms honestly, and we will never promise winnings. If you have a question about using these tools at Spinbob, our support page explains how to reach the casino’s live chat. 18+ only. Please gamble responsibly.

Questions UK players ask

How do I set a deposit limit at Spinbob?

+

Log in, open your account settings and look for the safer or responsible gambling section. Choose a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit and save it. Lowering a limit normally takes effect straight away, while raising or removing one usually has a cooling-off period. Live chat can also help you set it up.

What is the difference between a time-out and self-exclusion?

+

A time-out is a short break, from 24 hours to 6 weeks, for when you want to step away for a while. Self-exclusion is for when you feel you need to stop gambling: at Spinbob it runs from 6 months to 5 years, and your account stays closed for the whole period, even if you change your mind.

Does GAMSTOP cover Spinbob?

+

GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion scheme covering online gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain. Check the licence details in the Spinbob footer: UKGC-licensed operators must take part. Registering at gamstop.co.uk blocks you from all participating sites at once, for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.

Who can I talk to about a gambling problem?

+

Call the National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, on 0808 8020 133. It is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also use live chat at gamcare.org.uk, find information at begambleaware.org or attend a Gamblers Anonymous UK meeting.

Can I cancel self-exclusion early?

+

No. Self-exclusion is designed to be firm, so it cannot be reversed before the period you chose has ended. That protects you during moments when the urge to gamble is strongest. When it ends, your account does not reopen automatically; you would need to contact the operator and go through checks.

My partner gambles too much. What can I do?

+

You are not alone and help is available for you too. GamCare's helpline on 0808 8020 133 supports family and friends, GamFam offers peer support for those affected by a loved one's gambling, and Citizens Advice can help with shared debts. Look after your own finances and wellbeing first.
